Mac Pro Memory

Hi,

I'm going to order OWC 8GB (4x2) of RAM for my Mac Pro from MacSales.
As you know 2GB (2x1) already installed.

Is it possible to keep the standard 2GB and add the 8GB and get total 10GB of RAM without affecting the performance?? or must be matched pairs??

i googled and found that many users install owc + apple's default memory

A1 2GB
A2 2GB

B1 2GB
B2 2GB

A3 1GB
A4 1GB

B3 Empty
B4 Empty

Unfortunately there's no real way to get the best performance just by adding two additional FB-DIMMS to the default Apple memory, because they're not matched together. So if you want the best performance or close to it without having to trash the default memory, you'll have to buy 4 matched FB-DIMMs and install them in slots 1A, 2A, 1B and 2B. Then you can take the original Apple FB-DIMMS and put them in slots 3A and 4A, which won't affect the performance increase gained by using the 4 matched FB-DIMMS.
