Question Airport Express & Etisalat DSL Connection

Dear All,

I am getting a 256 MBPS Alshamil internet subscription for my home. Details can be foind below:

Al Shamil - Broadband Internet for Home

Now I told Etisalat, I will but the router and modem and they only need to come and install the line for me. I was also planning to buy Airport Express from Apple.

Now my question is, do I need to buy an ADSL Modem or Airport Express has a built in Modem in it ? Can I connect Airport Express directly to my Etisalat line or do I need to invest on something more ?

Thanking you all in advance.

Cheers,

Ajith

No.
Both Airports don't have modems.
You will need to buy a DSL modem.
I recommend the Linsys ADSL2+Modem.
It comes with 1 ethernet port. (But my Airport Extreme has 4)
It costs around 200 (should be less)

You might want to get 1 with a few more ports
There was a model that had 4 for an extra 50 maybe.

Keep in mind, the Airport is relatively expensive.
The Express + modem will set you back about 700 Dhs.
The main benefit is the USB and AirTunes.
But if you won't use those, you can go for a regular modem with wireless for about 300-400.

If you throw in a print server, the equation evens out a little more.
This will allow u to share your printer to all you computers wirelessly.

Airtunes allows u to stream music to your stereo rather than play them from your laptops speakers.

If you use either of these, than the investment is reasonable.

I'm using Belkin N1 modem router on a 4MB DSL connection and its working great! strong signal
i connect multiple pcs, iphone, ps3 and wii... never tried a mac ..yet! but it should work smoothly...

btw, 4MB connection is not as fast as it sounds!! 2MB is fair enough

I've got an Etisalat modem and can't get it to hook up to the internet via my Time Capsule. It works if I get Time Capsule to add to my exisiting network, but I want to use time capsule as the main base station not an add on. I think I am missing some settings. Any ideas?
