Drobo Drobo Drobo

I recently purchased the Drobo to use as a backup system with Time Machine. Drobo is a 'storage robot'. It is basically a USB Multiple (four) drive enclosure that can be upgraded when and if required without reformatting or repartitioning. More in the product website.

Drobo

I have currently FOUR 750GB drives in it. Drobo formats and partitions the drives automatically once installed. It has LED indicators for used storage and used drive slots. It also warns when a drive needs to be replaced due to failure. Data is secure in this process. With the 4 drives installed, Drobo formatted the space into TWO partitions (2TB USB limit).

Price wise its OK I guess. In my opinion, it is the best backup solution out there and compliments Time Machine very well. It replaces my old 500GB backup drive which was useless since it filled up in not time.

... Just wanted to share with all

Thanks for sharing, but I want to know how can you fill 500GB in no time? I have 80GB that holds my applications and documents, another external 40GB for back-up. Downloaded movies goes onto DVDs.

Actually, if you use your system in a certain way Time Machine can easily take up all that space.

For example, if you use Entourage and have 2GB of emails.
TM will back up those 2GBs every time you get an email if you give it the chance.

Unfortunately, TM doesn't give you much control over your backups.

Seeing as how I am a light user and have more than 200 MB of space used up on external drives, I can see how a more power user can eat up more space faster. And this does in fact sound like a great Shuffle article in the making!

It seems too good to be true.
Does it really work like they say it does?

They say it is "the first robotic" system.
But it isn't robotic, maybe automated.

I have 1TB in my Mac Pro... using around 350GB so far. Time Machine filled up 500GB in less than a month (not sure why).
