i was thinking of buying that drobo thing my self but the price and RAID system didn't fit me, so i decided to do this

buy my self this case

OWC Mercury Elite-AL 800+USB2 Pro RAID Rea... (MEFW924AL2K) at OWC

and insert 2 of these 1 TB maxtor hard drives

Seagate Technology - DiamondMax 22 1-TB SATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive

how will i partition/RAID them i still don't know but i need to move my data to a single drive or box for now... when i buy them i will figure it out..

each 1 TB hard drive is for 710 AED which is a very good price if you ask me, and the case to hold 2 of them is for about 120 USD which looks like a fine price considering RAID and quad interface options

any comments on this please let me know so i wont regret buying anything later...

Looks interesting, the price is very reasonable.
I dealt with OWC, their enclosures are good.

the maxtor drives scare me to be honest, for 710 a drive it is kinda cheap i dont know if the drives are reliable or not..
and i never dealt with OWC before but the enclosure got very good reviews

Odd, this is the third time in a week I've come across a discussion regarding the Drobo product.

Are these hot swap drives?

If they are, and this is truely a transparent process for the user, I'm interested.

Yes you can pull one out while reading or writing and your files are all intact. It's pretty amazing.
