Successful harddrive upgrade

I just finished upgrading the harddrive in my MacBook Pro. Changed the 160GB standard drive for a 200GB 7200RPM drive. In case you've never done it before but you're considering doing something similar, it's actually not that complicated. It's more complicated than in the MacBook, but it's still not bad. If you want to be careful, the instructions on iFixIt.com are really good.

I just finished upgrading my friend's MacBook to a 250GB.
His 160GB was shot.
Still working on recovery.

This time I did a TimeMachine backup of the 160GB drive and restored in after installing Mac OS X on the new 200GB drive. Worked like a charm.

Have u noticed how restoring from time machine is an option to transfer your data?
Previously, when you install OSX it asks if you had a previous Mac, and if you want to transfer the data.
Leopard has added the option to use a TM backup to transfer the data.

Yes, that's what I did. In the Migration Assistant, I picked restore from Time Machine backup.

Cool.

Its nice how Apple is using Time Machine in so many fashions.
Its becoming more than a backup method.
I just wish they would enable Time Machine over Airport Extreme.

If I remember correctly, isn't the HDD in the MBP not a user replaceable part?

If you open up the MBP your self, do you loose the right to claim warranty for the rest of your machine?

I did not try it myself, but in many forums they mentioned that there is simple workaround for allowing that.

It's an option... Certainly not as good as having it built-in for Airport Extreme (i.e. official from apple) or as using it with the new Time Capsule!!
