You can connect the two using a firewire cable and running Migration Assistant (under Utilities).
It'll transfer everything.
And I mean everything.
Down to the history in Safari.

btw, congrats UB662, on the new machine.

Carrefour and the likes should also have them. It's just regular FW cable.

Congrats!!!!

I think you got lucky with the duties part! Probably there was no invoice included and the aramex people must have put the value under $270 on the box

I got a cable at DFC as we were at Yo today. Decent sushi, good atmosphere. We should have a Mac Sushi Night!

Anyways, its migrating now.

Aramex didnt report the value on any of the paper work. and claimed the package contained "Computer Accessories." lol. There was no invoice on the box that the iMac was shipped in. Nor was there one inside of it come to think of it.

Looking back though, I once shipped 2 cars from the US here and there were no due on them. they were older models, and used, but still.

Maybe the UAE has no customs dues?! Dont know. Dont care. I have my iMac finallY! lol.

What power cable did this come with? Does it work fine with a usual adaptor, or did you need a power converter?

I am thinking about getting the new 4GB 1TB iMac from the US - I don't think you can get it here yet...

The power cable is standard for all iMacs and no converter was needed. the iMac's are designed to handle power from 60 to 240 V.

The 1TB versions will never be available here as I believe that is a custom build, just like mine was, it will have to be custom ordered and will take forever and cost 2 arms and 3 legs.

Hi All,

I know this is an old thread, but..

I have just returned from New York with an iMac 24inch, 3.06 Processor, 500gb drive with 4gb of RAM. Dubai Customs duty was 5%. Total store price $2399.

Migration Assistant was perfect over my wireless network.

Enjoy!

NICE machine. Congrats!

Yeah, Dubai customs seem to work randomly. My iMac didnt get charged a penny of customs tax... but my brake calipers did. Im not sure what their criteria is.
