Multimedia Center PC or MAC?

Hello everyone,

I want your opinion on something. I have a small multimedia player to play videos and music in my car and use it to watch videos at home at time. However its a hassle to take it our from the car and plug it in the tv.

I was looking into either building a multimedia PC or getting a mac with Leopard pre-installed since it has front-end software that is in MAC already installed. I was thinking with either going with a mac mini or the G5.

There are plenty of people reading this forum, but perhaps no one felt they had anything to contribute to this thread

You say mini or G5? What G5 will you put in - iMac or PowerMac?

I would suggest the Mini. I have friends that uses it as a media center. They connect LCD TVs and nice speaker systems to it. They use front row to watch their media. Other than its entertainment functions, they also use it to browse the internet and check emails. That is where their wireless mighty mouse and wireless keyboard comes in. Its a great multimedia player and basic computer.

I hope this helps in your decision. 1 vote for the mini!

Thanks for your inputs. I was comparing prices on different configurations for mutimedia PC's and they averaged around $1300 with the specifications I wanted. However, since im not depending on windows alot lately, i think I'll go with the mac mini.

Sorry I didnt mean the G5 i meant the Mac pro. We have more than 30 of them on campus and they look neat. Im planning to hook it up to a 42" SOny Bravia LCD TV.

Though I cant really decide between the mac mini and mac pro. Its not the price issue thats holding me back its the size and configuration. Mac mini is small and easy to carry around, Mac pro is kinda big and not easy to carry around.

Ive searched around for MAC multimedia centers and most use MAC mini but i didnt see any Mac pro. Wondering why!!

But unless I misunderstand you this is for putting in the car and carrying with you to your home too, right? Then I don't even see how you can consider a Mac Pro. You know the size of them, have you tried carrying one?

lol i guess your right. I might get one later to have as my desktop or something. Im getting bored of windows and all the stuff you have to do to keep it safe.

I was thinking of installing the Mac mini in the car, but having second thoughts about it. I already have a mutimedia player in the car to play music and videos, a car computer will distract me from driving well. Just like my iphone. Unless im calling someone, i dont use it while driving.

Thanks for your inputs guys. I'll go with the MAC mini since its easier to carry around.
