Elgato Eye TV DDT

I'm interested in getting this thing (http://www.elgato.com/index.php?file=products_eyetvdtt)
& I have no clue if it will work here....DTT? free-view?(yes I'm a gadget freak, but i dont know everything) i don't even sit in front of my Tv anymore...but I need to to record the shows i think i'm missing out on...besides with showbox you can only keep the recorded shows on the device( i assume you people know about showbox?..i'll explain later if you dont...), i want these shows on me lappy...or the iPod video...for when i'm on the run...if anyone has any knowledge/Understanding in this issue please enlighten us...( or at least me...)

MoeXS Over'N Out....

DTT simply means tv on your computer via antenna, hence "freeview". But I dont think this will work here specially if your using E-vision which outputs tv signals through A/V cables or "digital cable tv". What I think your looking for is something like this. And the input jacks should be like the red, white and yellow inputs (A/V).

any body out there using home made PVR (or DVR however you call it).

Please post your experiences on how to record TV programs.

I use the Humax iCord.
Humax iCord (courtesy of The Fangpyre)

It can record up to 4 channels simultaneously.
It has Picture In Picture.
You can pause and rewind live TV.
It also has a USB so you can upload and download Movies, MP3s, and Photos.
I couldn't connect it (I think it needs to be taken to service or updated, not sure).
I really recommend it.

The problem with Elgato is that your Mac has to stay at home and near a TV connection.

I also have an Apple TV which I use for MP3s, Podcasts, and any shows or movies I've download off the net. Not the best device, but nice to have. Managing content is as easy as it gets.

So, when you say it records 4 channels, you are probably refering to FTA (Free To Air unencrypted Channels) such as the FTA channels on Hotbird.

Suppose, if you have eVision cable, you might not be able to record 4 channels, because this PVR receiver can not unscramble the channels. In this case, the iCord receiver is connected to eVision STB (Set Top Box with a Smart card) which only sends 1 clear (unencrypted) channel at a time. Additionally, you have no access to EPG (electronic program guide - Channel listings) and so you can not program the receiver to record a sequence of programs in a variety of channels automatically.

---

Two things are needed for this
1) A Mac OS X application such as EyeTV software which can receive EPG feed in the XMLTV format ( xmltv wiki ). Eye TV 2 application only accepts Titan TV (USA) and tvtv (europe), which are paid providers of EPG.

2) The application should control the STB also ... Usually done through a IR (InfraRed) blaster remote ( FAQ: IR Blaster) which changes the channels on the STB by duplicating the functionality of the STB remote

I have searched a bit on the above, I feel a custom application needs to be written ... perhaps can be a project for EMUG

Sure thing ... I have a background in programming (though gave that up 5 years ago) ... I am just brushing up on Objective-C ... I will install XCode soon and get some start ...
