NY,
To be honest I only use FTA. I had Showtime for a while then canceled (yet they continued to charge me till I canceled my credit card). But it does have a smart card slot.
I don't know much about eVision or how it connects, but I think that will only go in as an external source voiding all 4 channels. It may not record at all for all I know.

To my knowledge, it is cheaper to go directly to the source instead of going thru eVision.
For some, however, this may be a problem if they lose censorship in house full of kids.

Channel listing is available on MBC channels and Showtime. And for them it is a matter of "click to schedule". But I have found both to be inaccurate, and thus skewing your recording schedule (sometimes cutting a movie before it ends, leaving you with the taunting question "Who shot JR?")
