Macbook final cut fiasco

Hey i have just moved ove rfrom scotland to here and was told about this site by the mac store in ibn battuta mall.

I have been considering buying a macbook instead of a macbook pro because i had to blow my budget on some other things. I am an amatuer film amker so programmes like final cut pro are becoming more and more important to me. I have been told the macbooks cannot run final cut pro on account of the graphics cards. Now i know that final cut pro does not really like pci cards unless you reprogramme the source code like i had to do with my old power mac as it had a pci card. Now does anyone know if it is because it is a pci card or the fact that it is a shared card that suposidly stops a macbook running fcp. This website gave me a little more hope http://www.creativemac.com/articles/...e.jsp?id=43717
But i was wondering if there was anyone with any other knowledge or personal experience
I know a macs pretty well so dont worry about having to simplfiy things for me, i would be very grateful for any assistance, as i have only just arrived in dubai and dont know anyone personly to ask here

You could respond here or email me at calum_macphail@hotmail.com if you have any info or just want to say hello

Thanks for your time

calum

Welcome to the site.

According to Apple's sys requirements for FCP they do indeed say "(Final Cut Studio is not supported on systems using the Intel Extreme Graphics 950 GMA)"

Is Final Cut Express an alternative for you? It will run on a Macbook. "An AGP or PCI Express graphics card compatible with Quartz Extreme or an Intel GMA integrated graphics processor in MacBook or Mac mini"

It seems like FCP will install and run on a Macbook but at reduced performance and perhaps also reduced functionality. I guess the store wouldn't help you install it on a Macbook and try it?

From Googling a bit it seems that people say it runs and especially if you max out RAM to 2Gb it's okay. But some people say it's really good performance and others say it's next to useless. I think it's hit and miss and depends on what your do in FCP, i.e. what effects, filters, and whatever else. It's not supported by Apple so if you run into problems they won't help.

By the way, nice to hear that MacStore is sending some people our way
