Is Apple ram made of gold?

I was in touch with the MacStore in Abu Dhabi today to ask about 2GB ram upgrade for my new iMac (which comes with 1GB)

The price I got was roughly Dhs 6,000 for a 2GB ram upgrade! - What is the alternative? Yes I can go with 1GB which is "only" Dhs 600 as I understood it - which makes it even more hard to understand the price for the second GB. In the Apple Store online in the US it is selling at $600 - and I do realize they need to make a margin here in UAE but...!

Any suggestions are welcomed

6,000 for 2Gb RAM for iMac (Core 2 Duo?) - I'm sorry to ask but are you sure? That's amazing to me that it would be that expensive.

Here's a thought... we had a story some time ago about a guy from Oman calling the AD MacStore asking of they had an iMac with 2Gb of RAM and they told him sure. The guy drives from Oman to AD only to be told that sure they have 2GHz iMac in stock. Note the mistake - 2GHz versus 2Gb! Same mistake here possibly?

And we just called the MacStore and they said it's 634 for 1Gb RAM for iMac.

The spec for the intel iMac memory is PC2-5300, DDR2-667, 200pin, SO-DIMM... thats notebook memory and can be bought from any reputable computer store. intel Macs don't use 'special' memory.

2Gb RAM

Kaylov.....why don't you try to look for it in the computer shops, it is alot cheaper there. It doesn't have to be from Macstore..... i got the 2Gb for about 840 Dhs for my iMac ........... if you are from Dubai, look in Bar Dubai -Khalid bin Al waleed St. there are many computer shops there or if you are from Abu Dhabi try those shops in Elektra Rd. behind eldorado Cenima.... i can't remmeber what was the name of the shop i got from .... i think " Speed" if i'm not mistaken......

Thanks guys - I was shocked too - and yes I am sure that was the price they gave me as I asked tem to check again.

I'll shop for this elsewhere - and yes this is the type for the iMac Intel Core 2 Duo I have:

Memory Module 2GB 667MHz DDR2 (PC2-5300) 2x1GB SO-DIMMs

Its also recommended to get memory in pairs (in your case 2 1GBs) for optimal performance
