The machine is no longer under warranty. I actually got this macbook from the USA.

When pinched, and massaged, it only changes color at the pressure point but nothing really changes.

I assume the best I can do is take it a mac store? Recommendations?

Sounds bad indeed. Make sure you get a quote first. Replacing the motherboard can easily cost 1/3 the price of a new unit, or more. So if both motherboard and display... Sometimes buying a new model makes more sense. Of course it depends how old is your Macbook, etc.

Years ago I had both an iBook (remember those, anyone) and white Macbook overhauled with new motherboard and LCD (after display problems too), but only because they were covered with AppleCare. While I don't remember the figures, I clearly remember I would never have done it should I have to pay the bill...

Otherwise, iStyle and Protech are the recommendations, it seems...
    Cheers,
    -Michl

Update: I have went to CDA (Computer Direct Access) and the technician there told me that it does not need to be replaced as it is only one dead pixel. I also asked him about the possibility of increasing, and he said it will not increase by 90%.

Thanks for the update. It's always good to know how issues are being resolved in the end.

Technician, or marketing folk? I'm really puzzled at the last statement. 90% of what?

'cause if you have only 1 dead pixel then 90% is... oh well. And it can't be 90% of the entire scren of course, so...

I took my mac to the apple store in Khaled bin Waleed street, and the technician said must be changed, and it was definitely increasing.
The technician at Protech said the same too.

    I dont have a choice, I guess.

And it will cost around Dhs 2000!!

Yes, replacing the display is always very costly... Still the part itself isn't that much - see example here, costs only Dhs 440(!) plus shipping... so the bulk of your cost is manpower.

Very inflated price, if you ask me. But then it's in line with the sale price of the Macbook, isn't it...

wow the massage thing worked!! my work computers monitor had a dead pixel since I can remember and I had made my peace with it, after reading this i used my nail to gently "push" the pixels around so the screen got a ripply effect and voila it was gone!!
    thanks guys!
