Ah flashbacks... let's make this a sticky one.

Welcome to the site akira. For future, better post new issue in a new thread, otherwise it may get buried.

Simple answer is that you probably can't get it anywhere in Dubai and if you can it's doubtful it's unlocked. It just started selling elsewhere in the world two days ago, you know that right?

3G iPhone Hacked

It has been claimed it has been hacked already

PC World

But there are a lot of stories going around about you being able to buy none locked iPhones. If this is correct and the hack is for real then they will be here fairly soon i would of thought.

It has been hacked, but the hack isn't public yet.
Probably in a few more days.

Where you CAN buy an iPhone 3G...

Ok, so here's the situation at the moment...

Both Italy, and Hong Kong do sell the iPhone 3G offically unlocked, however their sales model means there is no way you can buy the device seperately. You need to sign a contract (and thereofre have to be residing in these countries).

Other than 2 countries above, Australia (and perhaps France), sell the iPhone locked, with an option to unlock. Belgium sell the iPhone 3G without a contract but is locked to the carrier. Australia is probably the cheapest option at present, where you can buy the iPhone on a PrePaid option for AUD (Australian Dollar) 849, and for an additional AUD 80, can get it unlocked legally. This will withstand future software upgrades as well. The equivalent is AED 3000+ approx.

FYI: The 'commitment free' version of the iPhone 3G that AT&T will be offering is still locked to AT&T, just does not require you to sign a contract.

But to buy the one from Australia presumably that can only be done while actually being there, not online somehow?

Well, yes. Unless ofcourse someone has gone through the process and then decides to sell their iPhone 3G on eBay. Speaking of which, lots of iPhone 3Gs on eBay claiming to be unlocked but seeing as they are all AT&T and purchased in the US, not sure how they can be unlocked.

This time round, am looking out for an official unlock so won't have to worry when a new software update is out.

They put the minimum order at $1,000.
What that actually buys I'm not sure.
But I ain't trying that out.

Interesting, nonetheless.
