Exclamation No contract iPhone 3G!

Quote:
AT&T also says that a "no-commitment" (read: no contract) iPhone 3G will be available soon, at $599 for the 8GB version and or $699 for the 16GB handset. Pricey, but hey-no two-year contract.
iPhone 3G on sale 8 a.m. July 11; no-contract iPhone on tap : Ben Patterson : Yahoo! Tech

Nice prices though.

699$ is like 2500+ AED, a little better than 3000AED that some folks used to charge here when the 1st gen came out. They say the no contract phones would be out sometime later than july 11 any proper dates on that ?

i was coming to post the same article

anyways, im actually not getting the idea, so does that mean we can ship iPhones from the States and use with any carrier?? or what does it mean exactly?

BTW, if u think 600$ is pricey for the most beatiful mobile, then u have to check other mobiles prices, Nokias n95 is still 2500+, and so are the new Sony Erricsons, same for HTC.

Hehe, i have the N95-1 and holding on to it tho the cover is broken, screen scratched etc (Nokia durability) till i get my dirty hands on the iPhone 3G. N95 8GB still costs 2400+ but the prices of N95-1 have dropped down to < 2000. Either ways, i wouldent mind a little pocket hole with the iPhone, its worth to hold on to, and being with the touch for so long, it breaks all barriers in technology by being one of the most popular gadget around.

Go Apple GO !

Gizmodo say it is better to buy an iPhone WITH a contract, then cancel the contract then buy one without a contract.

Most likely, it will still be locked to AT&T, but you can use a pre-paid card on it.
If this is the case, it wll still need to be unlocked to use here.

::shrug::

Personally, I imagine the UAE will see a rapid influx from France before US. My feeling is that AT&T is going to stall on the "commitment free" iPhone for a while at least.

Which is fine by me, since I know how frustrating it is to have an iPhone waiting for the hack/unlock community to catch up. Although iphone-dev claims that they have reviewed their methods against the beta firmwares and should have no problems with v2

We shall see

Nope, article states that they are NOT offering the iPhone a pre-paid solution.

I know, but I find EXTREMELY hard to believe they will be unlocked.
EXTREMELY.

If that does happen, it will only be a mater of time before they are legally here.

i read more about it, and the thing is, AT&T will be selling the iPhones without data plan (as usual), so its selling the device without a contract. BUT that does not mean in anyway that the devices will be unlocked!!

I'm sure it will still be locked, and dont forget Steve Jobs said the new iPhones should be activated in stores, so whatever netwrok u use, u will gonna need to activate it (which clearly means still lcoked).

IMO, the new goods in all that is now the people in US could use their iPhones with their favorite network, that could boost the iPhones sales two much

I actually wish the US cellular market was more like the market here. It would be nice to purchase what ever phone you like and then take it to the carrier that you like.

There are some instances where you can do this, but it is very rare. (For example, Sony Style stores typically carry a few Erikson phones).

I understand that the cost of the phone itself goes up, but aren't we (Americans) just accepting contracts without looking at a contract free life with unsubsidized phones?

I don't think the new iPhone will come unlocked in the US right now, as is stated in the previous post, they are contract free, not unlocked. In the case of the first iPhone you had to pay the full, unsubsidized cost, and you had to sign a two year contract to go with At&t. I don't even know that they could set you up on the network without some sort of contract.
