Whats your other phone? are you using mac or pc?

If you are using mac use iSync and synchronize your contact via bluetooth.
If you device is not recognized by iSync, just send them as vCards via bluetooth to your computer. Then import those vCards into addressbook. Once done Sync them to you iphone as usual through iTune.

What is your old phone? It's quite easy with a Nokia and a PC (Provided your Nokia supported by Nokia PC Suite and is fairly new).

If thats the case, let me know and I'll post a How To method.

Or if you need a sim card copier use SIMport - SIMport.app - Import contacts from SIM to iPhone

The only way I know of to access your SIM on the iPhone is thru aSMS.
But I think you are better off copying from another phone.

Generally speaking, i isn't a good idea to keep contacts on your SIM, regardless of your phone.
Manufacturers are offering less and less support for that, and many features are not available to these contacts.

i totally agree with fangpyre... i never save contacts on my simcard anymore... i use Address book and just sync with my iPhone or syncing with Nokia phones and Sony are very simple using macs... as for PC's i would sudgest u start saving ur numbers on your computer using outlook or if there are any adress book like softwares on PC, us it cause its not only good and quick to just transfer contacts every time you get a new phones its also an excelent backup plan

Off topic:
PC users, remember to CONSTANTLY backup Outlook.
Synchronizing data is a tricky thing, though it may not seem like that.
It just takes one mistake and 'poof' it's all gone.

Mac users should always backup.
However, iSync won't allow for changes to the database bigger than 5% (user configurable) without user confirmation.
