What's the problem? are you in a hot spot area? meaning where wireless internet network is available? or do you want to setup you own wireless network using Airport or 802.11 device? do you have a "Airport" base?

as for the wasel settings simply use apn 'etisalat.ae'
Data does not work as GPRS but only as high speed 3g and hence you are charged 2 fils per kb and not 1 fil per kb. Etisalat claims that you cannot use GPRS and only 3g on the iPhone.

Hi

I will be moving to Dubai in a month or so, and since i am addicted to my iPhone, and it pulls emails all day (part of my job, and I refuse blackberries), I need a data plan.

I read through this forum, and was shocked by the way Etisalat treats GPRS connections, and that you (soon we) are charged an arm and a leg for every KB.

I wrote an email to Etisalat, you can see it quoted below. What is your oppinion? Is he/she right, or just doesn't know the deal yet?

Thanks,

Ben

Subject: GPRS Data Package

Dear Etisalat,

I will be moving to the UAE next month and I am a heavy Data user. I have a phone with no 3G network, and I am wondering if you have any GPRS packages. I saw your 3,5G packages, if I subscribe to one of those, will I be able to use them for GPRS?

We have a company account with Etisalat inDubai, if that makes any difference,

Thank you very much, with kind regards,

Myname

I dont understand your problem. Etisalat is offering 2, 10, 50, 100 etc packages. Still expensive but bearable. http://www.etisalat.ae/assets/docs/m...risontable.pdf

As far as I know your iPhone's EDGE service data is included in the 3G packages, for example the 10GB/m for AED460/m. And isn't that what their reply says?

Okay, I feel like I am an idiot.

But I did read through the thread, and you guys were saying the 3G data plan does not cover any GPRS usage, and that you are charged by the KB anyways. Or that only goes for the Blackberry package?

Sorry if my questions are dumb, I just want to make sure I can keep up my data plans in Dubai, and wont be overcharged.

Ben

You are funny. Of course it is included! Would be difficult to charge the client extra for GPRS in case there is no 3G available in your current location....
