Hi,

Great thread - I've managed to get EDGE working in Dubai by using 'etisalat.ae' in APN and leaving both username and password blank.

My question is how expensive will this be for me? I know it's discussed a bit in this thread but it's not 100% clear.

I'm on a monthly contract.
I also subscribe to the 3G package (25 DHS month - I believe for 2Mb)

Do I still need the 3G package? Should I cancel it now? It was using 3G on my Sony Ericsson.

Thanks,
Richard.

Did you look at Etisalat's web site? I did and couldn't find anything. But over at Du it says AED100 for 50MB, and AED400 for 200MB (all per month).

The way I understand it is that you get 2mb included in the normal data package - and any usage above 2mb is charged at 1 fills per kb - but it is not really clear to be honest.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I have looked at the website but couldn't find anything either.

I was actually in Etisalat this morning (adding International roaming to my account) but noone there seemed to know either. In fact as soon as they heard iPhone, they just said it wasn't a supported handset and they couldn't help.

"The way I understand it is that you get 2mb included in the normal data package - and any usage above 2mb is charged at 1 fills per kb - but it is not really clear to be honest."

This was how I understood it but wanted to make sure. I guess i'll have to wait until my next bill (but keep the usage low in the mean time).

as documented around here somewhere, ETISALAT will bill you for every kb you use despite being on an unlimited plan! Thats just how it works with them .... dont ruin my morning by getting my blood boiling abt Etisalat.

There's no need to type in all caps, Richard. That's the same as shouting in real life. For GMail pop/smtp settings check their site. You can't use the SMTP server for both incoming and outgoing. SMTP is for sending, POP is for receiving.
