Was iphone announcement so early a mistake

There is a view going aroung that the early announcement of iphone was a mistake.

Mike Elgan of Computer world lists 6 reasons as to why the early announcement could be a mistake and some of the points which I agree

1. Jobs raised buyer expectations too high
2. Jobs raised Wall Street expectations too high
3. Jobs gave competitors a head start
4. Jobs undermined Apple TV hype
5. Jobs put iPod sales at risk
6. Jobs wrecked Cisco talks

The entire article is here

This is the first time Jobs has done something UnApple like. Announcing a product which is not ready to ship.

My worry is the expectations and what if the product does not meet the customer and the wall street expectations?
