    Decent Web Hosting Service

Can any one suggest a decent web hosting service for hosting a personal website? I've tried GoDaddy and currently use Aplus.net .. haven't been happy with either of them .. my main problem with their service is that they are slow when someone visits the website ..

What do you need? You can host a personal website off of MobileMe if you have an account. if you don't have content on the site that requires the use of a database for instance.

Try HostGator.com or fasthost.co.uk , both are good. 1and1.co.uk is great, but very expensive.

    Cool

Look, if you going for shard hosting which is the cheapest - you'll get slow speed because your website neighbors counted in hundreds. So go for VPS or dedicated hosting. Also in most cases for home style website is absolutely enough to have plain blog hosing - Wordpress usually.

    Thumbs up

If you are looking for a local firm here in Dubai with experience them go ahead with Welcome to AESERVER UAE! The Leading Webhosting & Domain Name Provider in the UAE, Dubai

They've been around for a long time and they are also an aeDA (.ae domain administration) accredited registrar for .ae domains (under the brand on Engage.ae) so they are legit and licensed.

    I hope this helps

And in full disclosure, you're an owner in engage, right?

That's correct. Wasn't sure if it is allowed to put such direct material!

BTW Mangus, you where in touch with me once back in 2006/7 and was about to get hosting from us, but then went over to s5. That's how I know about these forums!.

To the community: I am glad to answer any questions related to webhosting or domain name registrations (.ae and others) anytime.

Sure, disclosures are fine, advising people on what to do is okay, but pushing a company's products and services is not (that's what advertising is for)

Yes, I remember looking at hosting in UAE but there was nothing that even came close to being competitive with what's offered from outside. Not sure how much that has changed. We just moved to Rackspace and they have some really good deals.

I've used Dreamhost, but I would not recommend them even for personal sites.

Give Mediatemple a shot. They have had some flak on their Grid Service, however their dedicated products are pretty good.

If you can afford it, Rackspace Cloud. I'm currently with them and absolutely love it. Bit pricey though.
