    Editing PPD

    Hi Everyone,

    My first post.

We have a Xerox DocuColor printer running on a Fiery server. Users are all printing fine with different versions of Mac in the office.

I want to know if anyone knows how to edit the ppd file that the printer is using in order to change the menu options.

The Printer features which has several settings for stapling, hole punching etc. have several non-user friendly options like Layout 1, Layout 2, Media 1, Finishing 1, 2 , 3 and so on... It would be nice to edit the ppd files so the menus says something simpler.

Your prompt assistance is highly appreciated!

    Regards,

I hope someone knows the answer... But isn't a PPD file basically a text file. If so can't you just open with text editor of your choice and change it?

Magnus, you are exactly correct. You need to find the relevant PPD file, and then open it with something like Text Edit, make the desired edits and then save it.

But maybe adrianross is not asking about the mechanics of how to edit the PPD, but the substance of what the necessary edits should be which would of course depend on the specific printer and the values that are desired to be changed.
