Thanks, Ultra.
Ramadan Kareem to all.
Stay hungry. Stay Foolish.
Dear muslim guys please explain to me something but don't take it as offense or something. I just curious nothing else.
Why the ...hm we having moon-sighting committee? Phases of moon discovered centuries ago and can be found in every astronomy book. Why in this case you don't have FIXED ramadan beginning/ending date+time? Is it just luck of knowledge or denying science and progress in general?
Any comments?
/* all these things we'll one day swallow whole and fade out again and fade out again....
BTW Ramadan Kareem! to everyone who believes....
I think its more like Easter eve in Christianity.
/* all these things we'll one day swallow whole and fade out again and fade out again....
BTW, I've put back the now traditional Ramadan header on the site. You might have to empty the browser cache to see it.
Very simple. the verse in the Quran that explains when fasting shall begin states that we should "Fast by it's (the moons) sighting"
The newborn moon MUST be SEEN with the naked eye. You can use telescopes to help you pinpoint it, but it must be able to be seen with the naked eye. For example, yesterday I believe the astronomy society of the UAE stated very clearly that the moon WAS infact born yesterday and would be faintly visible for a few minutes after sunset. And as you stated, the moon phases for the next 100s of years are calculated and known.
But no one actually saw it. The key is SEEING the new crescent. That is the religious term that must be met.
