EMUG Meetings Over Summer

We're coming into the summer season pretty fast and next scheduled meeting would be June 19.

Since attendance usually goes down during summer we thought this year we might suspend meetings for a few months.

This would mean we'd probably not pick up meetings again until October. Because Ramadan is expected to fall somewhere 21 August to 19 September, blocking off both two meeting days then. As usual we'll offer an EMUG Iftar though somewhere in that period. With all of that in mind, October 16 would be next meeting, right before GITEX starts on the 18th.

So let us know what you think about that.

Agree with your logic but for me it is easier to attend the meetings during these months as it is little less busy professionally.

I guess I can catch up on the EMUG forum.

I can't argue with your logic even if it is personally disappointing. They've got a thing around here about professors being around to teach their classes and that means the only time I can visit Dubai is in July. I'll have to make do with lurking around here.

Well, I didn't say anything was decided, I just wanted to float the idea around.

Another option that might influence our decision is that we could move our meetings back to Fridays, where they used to be. That also means we move to the CENTIMETERCUBE/Shufflegazine office in Deira, Dubai. A bit further for Abu Dhabi people to drive but on Fridays there's no problem with parking around our office building.

Ever since we moved to Satuday meetings some members have been saying they can't make it to the meetings. If we can increase attendance over summer by moving to Fridays then that might be a good idea.

im not sure if i will be in UAE during June and July, i might even miss the WWDC get-together

So far Friday seems to be the preferred choice, which is as I suspected. We'll stick with the time of 4pm, I guess, and make it the third Friday of every month.

For now we'll keep having meetings over the summer and see how many members turn up.

Next meeting will be June 19.

I have a committment on Fridays from 3 pm until 7 pm, so cannot come unless the meeting were Friday mornings (before the Juma prayers) or after 7.

However, Deira would be far easier for me than the current site.

Sorry to hear that. The 4pm starting time was decided long time ago and was working fine as far as I know - not too early and not too late. If there's enough interest in changing the time we can of course look at it.
