Reasons for sticking with PowerPC

With all the gaga over MacWorld Expo that started in California yesterday, people are eagerly awaiting the (rumored) announcement of Intel Macs. And I'll be honest and say that I am too, and if I could, I'd be the first in line to buy one. The arrival of Intel in Macs should mean better performance, better battery life, lower heat, and arguably also better compatibility with software and hardware. So why would anyone want to stick with a PowerPC Mac, i.e. G3, G4, G5? Well, for one they work. I mean, if Apple starts shipping Intel Macs now it's going to be a while before they're tested out and it's a good idea for most people to buy one. That might be six to twelve months. Then there's the issue of security. We know that much of malware - viruses, trojans, spyware, etc. - is written for Windows and Intel environments. So is it then safe to assume that when Apple switches over to Mac, that more malware will target Macs? I think it is. However I do think that Mac OS X is fundamentally a more secure OS than Windows because of it's UNIX underpinnings but that doesn't mean it's immune (not even on PowerPC obviously).

Then if it's true that there will be more nasty things attacking Macs once they use Intel components, it might be an idea to stick with PowerPC just to minimize the risk of security problems.
