Vodafone has announced that they are introducing iPhone to 10 countries later this year:
[via WeWantAppleGreece.com]Vodafone today announced it has signed an agreement with Apple to sell the iPhone in ten of its markets around the globe. Later this year, Vodafone customers in Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey will be able to purchase the iPhone for use on the Vodafone network.
So it is not unlocked device in these markets? In India till now only those whouse the CDMA technoloy sell their own handset but they also allow you to buy from the market, though it is a cumbersome process to get it to work on those CDMA networks.
No, GSM player in India has had any success with selling handsets as in the US and which is why when Vodafone entered India via an acquisition of Hutch and Arun Sarin, CEO of Vodafone said they will try to create a branded headset market many telecom analysts were skeptical.
We need to see if the iPhone can change that, which will be based on the price, if there is too much of a difference in price, its going to be benefitting the grey market operators who will sell at a lower price than that offered by Vodafone but substantially higher than what it retails for say in the US. Just like in Dubai, no warranty no guarantees nothing, unlocked iphones imported from the US using tools like Ziphone.
I guess we'll have to wait a bit more......... but the good news is: with Egypt on the list, Apple itself will provide the Arabic text support...![]()
