Secure VPN between your computers

Hamachi looks like a really exciting and promising technology to keep your computers secure while connected to networks like the internet. If I understand it correctly it creates a secure tunnel between participating computers. I've got much more to learn about it but go to their site and try it, it's free.

There is a Mac command line client and a GUI version is coming. I've got it running on my Mac and it works fine. There is a bit of fiddling around, it's at this stage not for just anyone - you have to be prepared to do some command line stuff. There is much about Hamachi that is cool. One thing is that it is cross-platform. Right now there is a fully-featured GUI Windows client, and command-line Linux and Mac clients.

With Hamachi you could connect your computers together and securely share files, do remote control, and so much more. I'm sure I'll get back to you soon once I've tried this out more.

Update: It's not for most users since it involves command-line stuff, and in some cases even compiling source code, but the Mac client of Hamachi works, and it works fine together with the Hamachi Windows client (I've not tried the Linux one). There's instructions on the Hamachi web site, and it all worked like a charm for me. I've set up a Hamachi network with all my computers in it and from any of them I can connect to the other ones to copy files, for example. All done encrypted securely in a peer-to-peer fashion. Now I'm moving on to getting remote control working between all computers (I'm guessing with VNC), so I may report back on that in a little bit.
