Another point of note is the time between updates starting from the public Beta:
10.0 - 5 months
10.1 - 6 months
10.2 - 12 months
10.3 - 13 months
10.4 - 19 months
10.5 - 30 months
Isn't it surprising as to how fast Apple has been updating it. Contrast it with Microsoft Windows..... you know the time lag between XP and Vista. Just shows, how much effort Apple puts into the software. Apple is a software company that also does amazing hardware designs.

Its not really that surprising. Apple OS is UNIX so its code base cannot really change, it must conform to all of the open groups POSIX requirements. Essentailly you have a 30 year old operating system, which saw some massive revisions early on by the TOP US Universities and now sees verry little. The good news for Apple is that they get to leave their underlying code alone, and work purely on the visual goodness that we love so much.

Apple also gets the benefit of having access to massive amounts of open source, When they see stuff they like they add it to source tree and move along.
