Etisalat 3G USB modem

After the introduction of the MacBook Air last night, I was thinking about how you would connect it to a 3G mobile network. All I knew about what Etisalat was offering previously was a PC-card.

But that doesn't work in MacBook or MacBook Air. I found this page about a USB version of it, with speeds up to 3.6Mbps, but it's on Etisalat's Egypt site.

I can't find anything on Etisalat's UAE site about this, but there is information saying they have one.

Does anyone have experience of using this with a Mac in UAE?

I've seen it on the market a couple of times.
I think Radio Shack had it.

I don't know if it works for Macs.
For allI know, Etisalat doesn't either :-)

However, I think you're better off connecting to your mobile via bluetooth.
But beware the telephone bill that comes with it.

Do you have any experience of that and with what phone? And what speeds were you getting? Anyone else who could chime in on this would be appreciated.

To be honest no I don't.
Its been a while since I've connected my cell to a laptop for net access.
The last time I can rememebr was over IrDA on a PC.

Tell me what phone you have and I'll get everything you need.
I'm at home bored to hell, since the rain has forced us to cancel work for the rest of the week (I know its over now).

The phone I'd use, if it works, is probably Nokia E61i.

Magnus,
I'll see what I can do. I'll get back to you on that.

Blairous,
Do you know what kind of modem it is?
If you can tell what brand it is and what model number we can try to make it work.
Give us as many details as you can.

What I've read so far it should work.
When you first pair the phone with your mac it should give you the option to use Dial Up Networking.
I'll get you more info.

On another note:
Here is a list of Nokia icons (including the E61i) for the PC. You can convert these using CandyBar.
Nokia E Icons

You can also connect it to iSync using Nokia's link.
iSync - Nokia Download software

You can also use Nokia's software to transfer media to your Mac.
