Nokia sells lots of phones

With the iPhone now out in the US and it being feverishly expected here, it's easy to forget about the established players like Nokia. Nokia has released their latest financial results, and they're good:
Quote:
Nokia recently announced their Q2 financial results, and the results are good. The company reported a 28% jump in net sales to $17.2 billion USD, along with a rise in operating margin from 15.3% to 18.7%. Their net profit jumped to $3.87 billion USD, compared to $1.56 billion a year previously.
In Q2 2007, Nokia sold just over 100 million handsets. You read it right, 100 million, in three months! That's over 20 million more than the same period in 2006. In the Middle East and Africa they sold 17.5 million handsets, up from 12.6 in Q2 2006. That's a staggering number of handsets that amounts to 38% worldwide market share. But when you think about it, how often don't you hear that Nokia ring tone at work, in the mall, etc? You know which one I'm talking about, then one that all Nokia users who have not changed the ring tone has on their phone.

And much like Microsoft, the all mighty Nokia's newest players (the N series) have so many problems and issues that I cant understand how a logical person could fork out 2500 AED for one. But hey, it's the cool factor I guess.

Why is it that all these huge major market share holding companies are in fact creators of the worst products?

They have been really pathetic when it comes to software support for Mac but they seem to be doing better. I've been impressed with my E71i and Nokia's iSync, iTunes, and iPhoto suport.

How did you miss that I got one? It's only mentioned here, here, and here Just kidding. I really like it. Good form factor, nice keyboard, nice interface, and pretty fast. 3G is really fast, and wifi is nice when there's any available. I set up Etisalat's pushmail and it works fine. Syncing with my MacBook works great with the Nokia plugin thing and Media Transfer. I didn't really expect it to sync with iTunes and iPhoto when I bought it but it's really nice that it does. Only have to find a good case for it and a large memory card. The 256Mb that comes with it is a joke Only nag I have is that with everything turned on battery life isn't the greatest.
