Since I bought a Nokia E61i the day before yesterday, I've been trying to figure out how to use it with my Mac. The obvious first thing is to get Nokia's iSync plugins for the particular phone you have.
Then what? It turns out Nokia has something called Media Transfer, which is a free download. And amazingly it lets you sync iPhoto and iTunes between your Mac and Nokia phone. My E61i is not listed as a supported phone but it seems to work just fine anyway.
So what can you do? Download Nokia Media Transfer, install it, and connect it with your Nokia phone. Nokia suggests you connect via cable, but Bluetooth works too (I used Bluetooth). Obviously using a cable is faster and it doesn't drain the batteries as fast on the phone.
When your phone is recognized by and connected to Media Transfer, you get a new folder in both iTunes and iPhoto. Drag any album to the folder in iPhoto and you can get the photos in that album on your phone. Similarly, drag a playlist to the folder in iTunes and you get that music on the phone. What's also really cool is that photos taken with the phone can be automatically sent to iPhoto when you connect.
I synced some photos from my phone to my Mac, as well as photos from iPhoto to my phone and it worked brilliantly. I also synced some podcasts from iTunes onto my phone and it also worked without problems. And I've (obviously) concluded that if you're going to do this a lot, use a cable, I know I will be.
This is a cool addition from Nokia and one I must say I'm very glad to have found. Now I only need to go and buy me a really large memory card for my phone.
