no one knows when the exact date for the Middle east version release date... but we do have an idea its sometime around December or January
why would u ever want to cell the iPhone? not a cool move dude... even i it is locked..
I used it for a good ten days and came back to my Windows Mobile phone. Being a Mac user (Macbook Rev C 2.16GB C2D 120GB HDD 1GB RAM), i naturally stood in line to get my hands on the iPhone and really enjoyed te device for the first few days. Once the honeymoon phase was over, i realised how many things were missing in it (compared to my WM Phone) and just couldn't get myself to keep the device. Just returned the device within the 14 day period and now i'm back to my Qtek 9100.
I believe the iPhone IS revolutionary in many ways and considering this is a 1st gen device, Apple has done well. However, if they really want to gain trust from the power users as well as the corporate segement, they really need to work harder on V2.0 slated for announcement at MWSF in Jan 08.
Oh well, knowing Apple, i know they are not going to disappoint and i look forward to what they have to offer in the future.
Nice place you have here by the way. Only wish i knew about it while i was in Dubai. Keep up the good work.
Regards.
Sure!
There are a lot of simple things that the iPhone has trouble doing. I'm going to list out as many as i can off the top of my head (will update incase i remember anything later on):
A) Messaging
Can't send text to multiple recipients
No exchange support (hence no push email)
No MMS
Cannot send more than 1 picture in an email
Cannot send files via email due to lack of file system
Inbox is very messy as it doesn't integrate email accounts
B) Bluetooth
No support for A2DP
Cannot send files over BT d/t lack of file system
No tethering
C) Miscellaneous
Too many steps required to make a simple phone call
Cannot search for contacts (must scroll entire list)
No support for speed dial (uses favorites instead)
3rd part application is poor d/t lack of available SDK (web apps are USELESS!)
No GPS support (closed platform hence currently development is not possible)
As i mentioned earlier, if something else comes to mind, i'll update the list
Regards.
Its weird, i just made a post mentioning my observations but i got a message that my post would be checked by a moderator and then posted. Any idea what the deal with that it?
Regards.
It's mentioned in the welcome email, I believe. But it's simple, we've had so much spam problems, so now every newly registered user gets their first number of messages searched for certain keywords and characteristics. If something matches the message is held in moderation queue until we get to it. Usually we get to it pretty fast. Once a user has passed the threshold of having a certain number of approved messages, then the moderation should not be in effect anymore.
And thanks for the detailed list![]()
I got to see it a last week since I'm in San Jose this summer! It's awesome.
I'd buy it but, its not like it'll work in UAE. :[
Hmmm, i guess that makes sense. I'm moderating at one of the PocketPC forums and the nigerian spammers are giving us hell!
If anyone has any questions about the iPhone, feel free to ask me as i have had very HEAVY first hand usage with the device. Would you guys like me to make a seperate "Ask me about the iPhone" thread?
Regards.
