And this University is in California, then what do we say in this part of the world?!
Working at a college I thought this was a very interesting read, and so true:
As I sat in my Statistics 216 class at Pepperdine University, I looked around at all of the different computers of the 23 students. I sadly totaled 20 Dells and 3 MacBooks (one of them being mine).
I know why this is the case, as my school's IT website states that a Windows based PC is required for business majors and that the recommended PC is a Dell laptop (which they sell in the computer store). I've never really understood this, as all we use in class is Excel and Word, and those can be run on a Mac with ease. Also, if I really wanted to, I could boot into Windows with Boot Camp. When will people realize that you can run both OS X and Windows XP on a Mac? That really defeats the purpose of buying a Windows based PC (unless you're a gamer I suppose)
The first 20 minutes of the class was completely wasted while a majority of the Windows Users had questions for the teacher on why they were getting errors from IE while opening the excel document (I'm not exaggerating this). I was all ready to go on my MacBook.
So what is my point? My point is that the ignorance of college IT groups and the corporate brainwashing of students is keeping Windows alive in the college environment. I must admit that the number of Mac computers that I've seen lately has been going up, but the majority is still much in favor of Windows. I have converted a few of my friends and they will never go back to Windows. I have contacted the IT department on why the requirements say you can't use a Mac, and they just respond by saying that Macs aren't "supported", therefore they can't add them to the required list. Does Microsoft have some kind of hidden agreement with Universities? I know that Dell does.
I understand that Apple has been attempting to attack the classroom, but they are going to have to put up a better effort if they are going to crack the brainwash of Microsoft's students. If they really showed students the ease and compatibility of their computers, they would quickly take over in the classroom. I know this for a fact. This would raise their market share as the amount of students is a large percentage of the population, and they would carry the use on for the rest of their life. When will people realize the bad habit that is Windows?
Just try [Mac] OS X out, you'll never go back. I promise.

it is completely the opposite in A.U.S "American University of Sharjah" .. heheh!
If you buy a PC, they will not support your PC + you will not be able to Print/Wifi/Softwares. So everyone HAVE to buy a MAC. and Use Mac Softwares. It was advertise in a bad way, that students wanted to Buy a PC, just to P*ss the Uni and Admin.
Mac's use intense 3D like FormZ & Archicad. But the current market in Dubai only accept PC users. (In C.V you should mention you are a PC user. No one will except you as a MAC. Not willing to invest in u to be Dum PC USER) So AutoCAD / 3Dmax was the PC Market.
Al thou FormZ & Archicad can be run on Windows, people are scared to save in different format, other than dwg or 3dx.
So, I am happy to see at least one Uni, here in Sharjah, who INSISTS you MUST have a MAC.
I was one of those PC users heheh!

Don't you think it is time that Apple is advertised in mass? There are just too many misconceptions, I am just tired of convincing people about the power of a Mac, not of converting them though![]()
