The PreRegistration.app file is compressed in a pkg file which only works/open in Leopard OSX 10.5.
I am currently on Tiger OSX 10.4.11. So, I went ahead and extracted the PreRegistration.app file from the pkg file and now it works on my OSX 10.4.11. So, if anyone needs the file, please pm or if there are many requests, I will upload it online and post the url here.

I still don't get .pkg compression(plus 10.5 OSX requirement), they could have compressed it as a zip or rar or etc (much better compression ratio than .pkg).

Please make it available and let us know the link. That'd be a great community service

    PreRegistration.app.zip PreRegistration.app.zip - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

Decompress/Unarchive it to use the PreRegistration application.

Apparently they changed the process a bit. now you don't need to get an appointment, you just have to show up. however different centers have different capacities when it comes to how many people they handle and how many people actually show up. I'm wondering, those of you who received your IDs or are going to do so soon, what's a good location to go to to go through the process in a less painful/problematic way?

In Dubai, Al Barsha is a good area. Karama is a hit and miss, sometimes overly crowded, sometimes near empty.

where exactly is the center in Al Barsha located? I don't know the area too well, Google Map doesn't show too much detail.

I have admit, for the past few months I have been smug with my friends.
I was "smart" enough to make an appointment months ahead.
While they had delayed the appointment, and were thus forced to wait for a hours to get their IDs.

    My appointment was for today.
I got an SMS confirming my appointment, and asking I be there 15 mins early.
Today I go expecting rows of people waiting in line, and that I will simply walk pass them all.

I go there today, rushing to be on time.
Worried that if I am late, I will lose my turn.
But when I get there, there was no queue.
I think even better, I won't wait at all.
I reach the door, and its locked.
A sign on the door states that the center is closed on Fri & Sat.

Now I don't know if I will have to wait for hours on end, reschedule, or what?!!
In retrospect, I shouldn't be surprised.
Service has never been a key factor in this part of the world.
    c'est le vie...

Ages ago, they had mobile units in major malls in Abu Dhabi. hardly anyone was uing them. I did mine there, and I do mean ages ago. Now everyone is rushing to these over crowded centers like cattle. It's weird.

There are little "hidden" centers around Abu Dhabi, like a small unit in the Chamber of Commerce that hardly anyone knows about. For Abu Dhabi people, try there.

Ajman and RAK centers would be a good place too as most of the folks i know have been able to get appointments and get the stuff done hassle free. The one at Al aweer is also worth a try.

I am nearing renewal in 2010 :|, I have had the card for 2 years now and i have used it only once .. geezz. Hope the renewal process would be easier and not like applying for a new card .. but like fangpyre said c'est le vie
