I dont know where r they going, but seems like they r trying to convince people that "we r simply there as we were always", with this ad they are explicity saying "we should connect to real people" !!!

still didnt get it though!!! should stealing a girrafe convince us?
I don't get it either but perhaps there's nothing to get!? Perhaps all they want to do, at least initially, is get people talking about the ads, talking about Microsoft, talking about "what's the point?" There's a concept in marketing and communications which is called "re-framing" the discussion or the conversation. It basically means trying to steer a public discussion and the public's perception of a person/company/product in a certain way. Perhaps that's what they're doing. That is a long-term process though so perhaps we'll see many more of these and one morning we wake up and think "aha, that's what it was all about!"

I actually found the bit about how out of touch they are and how Bill Gates lives in a mothership over LA and Seinfeld has so many cars that hes stuck in his own traffic jams, funny.

You gotta give it to MS though. Their ads have got everyone talking about it. It's created a buzz and now people are talking about MS now more than Apple.

Well I love it... Its funny.... entertaining in a way. Good job I would say. Does not fit a certain purpose other than creating conversations and it works pretty well... Same like Paris Hilton is doing it and ppl keep talking about her.

Microsoft has set up this website.

It will change the quote every time you refresh.
You can also submit your own message.
    I good idea.
Now go over there and tell them how a PC sucks.
    Post your slogan here.

Not sure, but I doubt they can control it 100%.
In theory there will always be junk.
I saw a few nice ones.

    Yeah.
Word is that those spots were only intended to generate buzz.
They were never planned to go beyond that point.
When I first heard about these, I was expecting something inline with The Adventures of Seinfeld & Superman

The second phase is the "I'm a PC" ads, which have some good points.
But I seriously doubt they will do anything outside the geek community.
Which is where the Apple ads are hitting the hardest.
I think it was a waste of money.
But maybe if they continue to throw money at it it would work.

they made the buzz as intended, but they didnt get advantage of the 10$ million they put on Seinfeld.

and those "I'm a PC" ads, i agree with fang they are only useful inside the geek community, and more specific inside the people-who-think-about-switching community.

The only purpose of those ads is to tell the people who want to switch, "no come back, dont even think about it, the whole world is PC"

If thats true -which i believe- then Microsoft is playing the catch up game with Apple again. Even in an ad campaign they didnt innovate anything.

Another thing, those ads made a lot of buzz to Apple too, with that "Microsoft Ads are made on Apple" thing, im sure many Apple executives are laughing now.

Apple -after 30 years- still innovating, and Microsoft still ripping.

You guys are funny.... When I read your posts its like you understand all the things going on there in Microsoft and Apple. If I look at the financials from Apple and Microsoft, Microsoft does not really look bad and for me as an investor I dont care where the money comes from. And I bet you also dont care where your company makes the money with as long as you get your Bonus and they dont deal with drugs or doing other illegal things. And using the same ad style was done a million times by other companies and it proved to be very effective. So why not doing so? And please: You are talking about the "geeks" but only the geeks actually care on which platform a picture was done because really noone cares.

I am neither an Apple nor a Microsoft fan. I dont care what they are doing because I think both are doing great. The only thing which bothers me is the fact that MS is always treated as the bad guy and in fact, they have done it right as you can see on all the PCs running windows, the exchange servers, the iis servers. (This list is endless)

So if you want to continue laughing about a picture made on a mac or about one(!) marketing campaign done by MS please go ahead. Its redicoulous.
