Blackberry in Dubai

Was just wondering, how does the blackberry scene work ? I have never owned one, but looking at the BlackBerry Bold i might have to consider my options for changing my trusty N95 :P

Do we get blackberry sold at shops like any other phone (and then go to etisalat to activate the service)? or do we have to get the phone ONLY from etisalat. I saw a friends blackberry, and i kinda didnt like the etisalat branding. Prolly i am one of em who dont like being tied up and a little paranoid about my privacy.

DU as i would know still doesnt have a blackberry service, any ideas as to when they decide to go hand in hand with latest technology
