    Device advice

Let's have your views and input on this, please.

I would like a device which in form factor would ideally be something like the Sony ebook reader and the main functionality would be to browse the web. For my needs it doesn't really need to do much else but to have a contemporary web browser so I can follow my RSS feeds, perhaps Gmail online and a few more things. It needs to be fairly light and thin but at the same time it needs to have a rather large screen, not sure about number of inches but 1024 pixels across would be minimum I think for easy web browsing.

Sure I can do these things with iPhone or iPod Touch but the screens are too small. A MacBook Air is too big and expensive. Sony Ebook Reader doesn't have a browser that I know of. There's Nokias N810 which might work but screen is a bit small. EeePC could perhaps work, at least the new 900 model, but would prefer a table type form factor.

So what are your thoughts and suggestions?

The only things that come to my mind is either the ModBook or a Tablet PC, but neither is as light as you expect or cheap.

Modbook would be cool but it's too big, heavy and expensive. Some of the really small Tablet PCs might work but then they are also too expensive. I might give the N810 a go, it's Linux too which I like.

Why don't you mod the EEEPC the touch screen mod?
Its bigger than the Nokia, and more practical.

PSP is an interesting idea. Apparently Google Reader's mobile version works ok as does Gmail. And I guess PSPWare can help connect to Mac. Anyone using their PSP for some web/email on the go and things like that?

Update: and there's Missing Sync too and VisualHub has a PSP preset.

iPhone is actually a bit better in the sense of having more pixels. Good catch fangpyre. PSP as far as I can tell is 4.3" 480x272 pixels, iPhone is 3.5" 480x320 pixels. So I guess things should look larger on the PSP. Nokia N810 is 4.1" 800x480.

It is bigger, but it is still in the same "range" if you know what I mean.
And if you throw in the Touch/iPhone's zoom on double tap feature, it makes more sense.

But I still think a modified ePC is a better choice.
And it will make for a great Shuffle article.
