Writing and Displaying Arabic with my Mac Hi guys, this could be a dump question, but am suffering from this since i shifted to mac (2 months ago), when i try to write in arabic in Microsoft Word for Mac, the letters dont get attached to each others lik this one: ?????????? would come in word: ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? I have checked all what i thought it could be the reason, always in vain. i have the same problem when i open webpages in arabic, letters are also not attached to each others (am using Safari) after doing some research, there seems to be a problem when installing Mnicrosoft Office on Mac, it messes up the arabic fonts ! most of the webpages are encoded as windows-1256 codeset, but in safari i can not see that to be chosen..... any clues how to make it work correctly ? maybe how to install the correct codeset/font and from where ? thats a sampe of what i can see....... ![]()

Majeed, As you may be aware that Microsoft has a conspiracy to ruin Mac OS. If you don't belive me, then remove the following fonts that was installed along with MS office: Arial and Times. your Safari should run and display Arabic web pages perfectly. Now I would go and tell you more about Arabic in Mac, but first you tell me how to include an image in your thread without attaching it, is it an html code?

OK no blackmailing, Majeed, after removing said fonts, you must put in place a fresh Arial and Times fonts not from MS Office CD. As for the Arabic in Office, sigh Office new versions doesn't support Arabic any more. We use other Apps for Arabic typesetting such as Mellel, Nisus, or at least TextEdit for that matter.

To assist further, the fonts would be residing in your MacintoshHD(Name)>Library>Fonts. Remove available Arial and Times, and replace them with the ones in the attached folder. I am in a hurry, I will check how it went later this evening.. off to training. Last edited by Zaid Al Hilali : 9th December 2006 at 20:35.

i was starting to have my eyes aching from the bigfont by the way... since we started that subject !!! the link in the forums pages for the forum itself is mis-spelled.... ![]() http://www.emiratesmac.com//forums/ when i click it... it logs me out automatically ! and i can never log in again from the same page... i have to replace the double slash with a single one to be able to do that ! or go to the main page, and access the forums from there ! | |

Sometimes running a site can be a chore, especially if it's only supposed to be a hobby, but it takes more time than your full-time job ;-) Anyway... I'm not complaining... it should have been fixed now ;-) Last edited by Magnus : 12th June 2006 at 17:53.
