BaseCampHQ.com

Does anyone have any experience using BaseCampHQ.com in Arab countries?

They claim it supports a number of languages via it's support for Unicode (UTF-8). I tested it with Milestones and it works fine. My questions would then be as follows:

1. Have you had any problem displaying Arabic text anywhere within the web application?

2. Have you experienced the site being blocked in any of the Arab countries, specifically the UAE and Saudi Arabia? When you sign up for service you can choose to have a subdomain at one of the following domains. Being that I am located in the United States, I would be very grateful if members of this user group would assist me in checking whether these domains are blocked. Some of them load to just a plain white page, which is fine. If you are able to check, would you please tell me where it is and/or is not blocked. Thank you so much!

basecamphq.com
projectpath.com
clientsection.com
seework.com
updatelog.com
grouphub.com

Magnus always pushes us to use BaseCamp, I have limited my use to English but placed Arabic documents. I shall check it out.

I can't speak about how well it handles Arabic, but I hope Zaid can fill you in on that. Any other aspect of Basecamp I can help with. I do like it a lot and use it for our work on Shuffle and many other things. I also use most any other 37Signal system, including Backpack, Highrise, and Campfire.

Typing and displaying Arabic within Basecamp products do work since it is web-based and of course you have added Arabic to your language list in the System Preferences.
I have noticed however, the site does not offer full support. When I add English words in between Arabic text, lines will start to break apart. So it is advisable to keep english words in separate lines like here.

!

Notice that even the exclamation mark (full stop, question mark or comma) appears in wrong position if they are added to the end of text, so it must be added in a separate line.

I hope Magnus can answer your second point there I don't know these products

Well original poster had two points, I shed some lights on first point, but the second one I don't have access to mentioned services, but op is asking whether these services are blocked in the Middle East or not, I can tell within UAE they aren't blocked, well at least for basecamphq.com and grouphub.com they aren't.

You're right, and I can't add more to that than you can about them being blocked or not. I don't see why they would be blocked though.

My previous company used to use base camp, we moved from MS Project Server to it. It definitely does not have the same kind of functionality. However it is pretty easy to pickup and it doesn't require a lot if any end user training. One of the primary reasons we moved to it was because we were doing a lot of work in Iraq, and we needed to get project engineers up to speed quickly. It is pretty intuitive.

Thanks for your reply "Dandantheitman". What features do you miss most from MS Project Center that you do not have in BaseCampHQ?
