Other than 2 countries above, Australia (and perhaps France), sell the iPhone locked, with an option to unlock. Belgium sell the iPhone 3G without a contract but is locked to the carrier. Australia is probably the cheapest option at present, where you can buy the iPhone on a PrePaid option for AUD (Australian Dollar) 849, and for an additional AUD 80, can get it unlocked legally. This will withstand future software upgrades as well. The equivalent is AED 3000+ approx.
FYI: The 'commitment free' version of the iPhone 3G that AT&T will be offering is still locked to AT&T, just does not require you to sign a contract. | But to buy the one from Australia presumably that can only be done while actually being there, not online somehow? |
