Please tell me what line are you taking out from your wall point to your router (for internet). Is it a normal telephone 4 pin/6pin socket (RJ11/14) or is it a RJ45 LAN wire. |
Ok, so the line that comes from the wall socket is the RJ-11 cable which is the conventional phone line cable. Although, this line fits into the RJ-45 socket, it will not function correctly. An RJ-11 cable only fits into an RJ-11 socket which should read as (Line) on the modem.
In short, the line you are taking from the wall socket to the modem is RJ-11. A simple setup should be like this:
1) An ADSL modem with a line in socket which accepts the RJ-11 cable so that you can connect to the internet.
If the modem is also a gateway/router, then you don't need to do anything else as wireless will be enable on it. All you need to do is log on to 192.168.1.1 and input the settings mentioned in the above post.
If the modem is not a combined gateway/router, you will need to purchase an additional router which is connected to the modem through the RJ-45 cable. Once again, after this, you will need to log on to 192.168.1.1 with the above settings.
I know all this is sounding a tad complicated, but trust me thats its fairly easy once you start doing it. Even a cheapo WAG54G from linksys should work as it supports RJ-11 line. So all you really need to do is connect it, input the above mentioned settings and you are good to go!
Let me know how it goes.
Regards.
