I'm not sure whether it's strong enough to run it without battery, but I've used MB chargers for my MBP many times to charge it and it's been fine. It takes longer it seems, but works. It shouldn't harm your MBP as it is less powerful, but I'd be careful about doing in the other way around, using a MBP charger for an MB.
