All computers have problems, and there's always the risk that you get a lemon, whatever brand you buy. Anyone who may have told you there are no problems on Macs, lied to you. I would say that Macs generally have less problems than PCs though.
I'm not sure you ever said you tried it or not, but Repair Disk Permissions is one thing to try. Boot into
Single User Mode is another thing.
